Ryan Bird Reports on Continuing Viva Strike
Viva Bus - 95

There is no end to the strike by Viva bus drivers in York Region.

Their union says the first attempt to resolve the dispute since the strike began proved fruitless.

Representatives from the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 113 and the Viva contractor, Veolia Transportation, met with a provincial mediator Wednesday afternoon.  Local 113 president Bob Kinnear says the company hasn't moved from the offer that was rejected by the drivers a week ago.

"We want a settlement but if there is no movement that will be difficult to achieve," Kinnear said in a statement.

No more meetings are scheduled, but Kinnear says the union would respond to any meeting requests from either Veolia or the mediator.

The 160 Viva drivers walked off the job last Thursday.
