The 900 unionized drivers, maintenance workers and mechanics voted to accept a new contract on Thursday night.

Details of the agreement were not available but 56 per cent of the workers voted in favour of it.

The workers, members of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1572, were the highest paid transit drivers in the Greater Toronto Area under their previous contract, which expired on Tuesday. A Mississauga bus driver earned up to $26.63 per hour, 5 cents more than TTC operators earned under their last agreement.

Mississauga Transit carries about 162,000 riders daily.
