The city's executive committee has joined the list of those who don't think the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) should be declared an essential service. Both the union and TTC have spoken out against it.

Although the city's executive committee doesn't agree with the TTC being declared an essential service, every councillor thinks the issue needs to be debated at council.

The problem they have, even if it does become an essential service, is that it doesn't mean an end to transit strikes.

Mayor David Miller says what needs to be done is to put in place a labour relations framework much like the city has with its firefighters, based on the city and the union working together to prevent anyone from walking off the job.
