When Canadian troops went into Afghanistan in 2002 to support the US War on Terror, it was mainly in a security capacity.  Since then, the number of our troops there has increased, they've been moved into the more dangerous area of Kandahar, and their mission steadily moved to a more combat-focussed one.

It's generated strong emotions and opinions among many Canadians.
