Ryan Bird's report on new listeria products found in Maple Leaf products

The good news is they caught it but the bad news is the listeria bacteria is still making its way into some of the meat products at Toronto's Maple Leaf Foods plant.

Despite a massive clean-up effort and a tightly controlled reopening, the Maple Leaf Foods plant at the centre of a deadly listeriosis outbreak back in the summer has produced more contaminated meat samples.

Both the company and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency confirmed Wednesday night that four samples out of thousands taken had tested positive for the bacterium, and assessments are now under way.

None of the products made at the plant since it reopened three weeks ago have been sold, and there is no danger to the public.

Maple Leaf Foods CEO Michael McCain says the news was not entirely unexpected, noting listeria bacteria are common in food production facilities.
